Education is so important in today's world. Some people think
they can just get a degree and then they are set for life. But, that isn't
true. You must be continually learning and growing. Some things you learn from
experience, but other things you have to pick up a book and read. You need to
attend a class. You need to talk to experts in your field of interest.
Today's economy is fast growing and ever changing. Through continual lifelong
education, you can enhance your capability to receive some of the revenue
passing through our economy. In the computer field things are always changing.
There are new operating systems coming out, new program IDEs such as Visual
Studio 2005, new database languages and new software to view videos.
And it isn't just happening in the field of computers. You have to stay on top
of your game in medicine, accounting, and finance. In accounting there are new
laws being written every year that you must know and learn to be of the most
value you to your clients.
Education Requires Time
Education requires time. Time spent reading, studying and listening to others.
Education also requires some outlay of cash. It costs money to grow in the
knowledge you need. I budget anywhere from $200 to $2000 a year for my
educational needs. Books cost money and especially computer books. They are so
expensive. But, not as expensive as the amount of time needed to read and study
them.
This time is well spent. You have more confidence when you are studying and
learning your craft. When you walk into a meeting and understand what people
are talking about and can interact and speak confidently on the subject you
gain. You gain in respect from others, self-confidence and you gain a greater
income. People who know more and are able to express their knowledge
confidently make more money.
How Much Time Should You Spend in Education?
How much time should you spend in education after you finish your schooling. At
a minimum, you should spend at least an hour a day. That will keep you even
with the competition. Spending more time than that puts you in the top 5% of
leaders.
I have these quotes from successful motivational and business speaker, Brian
Tracey, posted above my computer.
Your whole job in life is to increase your value. Do everything possible to
increase your value.
If you wish to earn more you must concentrate on increasing the value of your
services.
You will always be rewarded in direct proportion to what you do and the value
of what you do.
What are you going to do today to increase your value? Will you learn something
new? Will you pick up a book in your industry and educate yourself? Will you
exchange ideas with others? Will you attend a continuing education class at
your local community college? How motivated are you to move up in today's world
and make more money and be respected more by your peers?
All your goals are possible by learning more and becoming more educated.
