The Daisy produces many beautiful flowers with white petals and that
distinctive bright yellow center. Plant the daisy in full sun, though in hot
areas it could stand a little shade. The daisy most people think of is the
variety known as the Shasta Daisy.
Water the Daisy during dry times, otherwise it is a hardy plant and pleasing to
the eyes. They grow from 1 to 3 feet tall and are 6 to 18 inches wide.
Use the taller variety of the daisy for the back of the garden to provide
height. Pinch to increase the number of branches. When the flowers die back
then deadhead to produce new flowers. The plant has a blooming season from June
to September.
For the best care cut down the plant in the fall, then in the colder climates
like Chicago, mulch with straw to protect it from the long cold winters. The
daisy can be divided every 2 to 3 years. It is best divided in early spring.
