Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, except me and my mouse.
The blogs were posted by the blogger with care,
In hopes that Google Robots soon would be there.
The commentators were nestled all snug in their beds,
While I searched for wisdom some place in my head.
The dog in the corner and the cat in my lap
Had just settled in for a long night's nap.
When out on the forum there arose such a chatter,
It caught my attention I must see what's the matter.
I switched browsers in a moment not wasting a beat,
FireFox, I opened, knocking the cat from my seat.
The light from the monitor pulsed in steady fashion,
giving the impression of realism in the new virtual session.
When what to my sure disbelief should I read,
A message from
Matt Cutts in my RSSFeed.
Google speaks from the mouthpiece, their words come from Matt
I didn't move a muscle, in my seat I just sat.
When the messenger speaks all the SEOs will listen
all the blogging will stop in wild eyed anticipation.
Now Randfish! Now
Jennifer! Now
Stoney and Bill!
On Michael!
On Kalena!
On Debra
and Jill!
To the top of the SERPS! to the top of the page,
This is wisdom from Google, advice that is sage.
As young bloggers who wallow with traffic so light
when they meet with a specialist, their SEO takes flight.
To the Wordpress site
they all rushed,
In hopes to be the first, so as not to be crushed.
And then, in a moment, without so much as a breath
Visitors began dropping Entrecards,
on the right nav and left.
There was great joy in my writing, my heart skipped a beat,
the traffic was rising, I thought it was neat.
Did my page rank go up, or was it all just a vision,
the traffic was there and I wrote with precision.
My coffee was cooling on the desktop so near,
was I just dreaming or had all the problems just cleared?
Matt Cutts held court in the center of the forum
the SEOs all listened they respected with decorum.
There will not be paid links, bad neighborhoods stay clear
These are rules not suggestions, now listen and hear.
Direct traffic was coming to my web site like a blast
of fresh air in the winter when you open the sash.
Was it the comments I left on the blog by
John Chow
or links from the bloggers that have become my pals?
The only way to know was to check the analytics
from Google and Wordpress, from EntreCard and Dianetics?
The numbers were up, direct traffic was no quirk
I was getting visitors, my excitement was perked.
I went back to typing click-click, click-click
a new message was expanding, it was growing so quick,
I knew what to say, I didn't despair
The words were flowing, the right ones were there.
Traffic had grown all the SEOs were surprised
how did you do it, was it a contest or prize?
No, I said, as I realized what was true,
Direct traffic will come to communities, too.
Build a community like
Caroline, the bloggers know best
it is repeat commentators, that make community no jest.
Matt Cutts left the forum all the SEOs were stunned
so I stepped to the center and said, "Merry Christmas, everyone."
