Going Going Gone
I am cleaning up some of my advertising this week. If you don't like all the
ads I place on my site then you are going to be happy. I am getting rid of ads
that don't work, ads that aren't bringing traffic and ads that are not
producing revenue.
So, who is getting cut? Number one is AdsFlip. I am flipping them off because
they didn't work all the time and I received very little traffic from them. The
price was right. I think I get more traffic than the average blog in the
AdsFlip network. So, I received a lot of free ads on AdsFlip. But, free ads
aren't any good if you aren't receiving any traffic. The ad that I had placed
on AdsFlip was a popular ad that had performed well on other ad networks. So, I
am confident it wasn't an ad issue it was a network that wasn't right for me.
AdToll Peel Off Ad Had to Go
If you have been here in the past you might have noticed that I had placed the
AdToll peel off ad in the right hand corner of the web page. But, I was earning
maybe 2 cents a day. The ad used up resources and I don't think it was right
for my customers. Hence it was only paying 4 cents a click. Now I advertise on
AdToll on occasion, I still have a long running ad for my garden section that
performs well. But, the AdToll peel off ad had to go.
The next ad block going out the door is
DealDotCom. I really had high hopes for the DealDotCom project.
I had spent a couple of days to make a feed reader widget and made it available
for other sites. But, again, I didn't know how many clicks I was getting, but
there were no sales, no affiliates under me and it required a boatload of space
on a limited right nav bar. I have other advertisers that I earn money from
that need to be there. So DealDotCom is out.
Project Wonderful Won't Last Long
I have removed one of my Project Wonderful ads and I think the other set of
three is leaving before the end of the month. It depends on if I want to leave
6 bucks on the table. We'll see. I suppose I could place an ad that would cover
the 6 bucks. But, it seems I place a limit on my ad purchases and they always
exceed it. I can't run my advertising like that. I like to know how much it is
going to cost, so I can budget it and know I am getting value for that budget.
Just so you know, I had one of my own ads, which was a rotating ad for some of
the products I sell and for some of my articles. Gone. I removed that rotating
ad also. Why? Because it wasn't performing. If your ads aren't performing then
you need to remove them. And if you don't know if the ad is performing then you
have a bigger issue.
ShareASale Clicks Are High
I am currently keeping
ShareASale on the site. I haven't gotten sales yet, but the
click through rate is strong. I am coming up on my strongest season, so I still
have high hopes for ShareASale. AdSense has always performed strong for me, so
that stays. I have some Amazon ads for the gardening section. This year I am
getting clicks on the ads. So, Amazon will stay up for 3 months if I keep
getting clicks on the ads. Entrecard is driving traffic to the web site. But, I
don't think I am earning any money from the traffic. I know they are a big help
in dropping my
Alexa Rank. So, they do serve a useful purpose.
Is Your Advertising Working for You?
So, I am not afraid to remove ads that aren't performing. I suggest you spend
some time today to see if your ads are producing revenue for you. If they
aren't then get rid of them.
