I was raised by lambs. And I grew up a lamb myself. I followed others. When
people in authority told me to do something I followed like a, well, like a
lamb. I was just part of a big group of non-unique nobodies. That's right, I
was a lamb.
What Fired Me Up?
Today, I decided all this has to change. Why should only other people succeed?
Why are they different? How come they are succeeding and I am only doing okay?
Are they wolves? I don't mean to call them names. I am not using wolf here so
much as a negative term, but as people that are at the top of the food chain.
These are the leaders of the blogging and internet world. These people aren't
just following the crowd they are roaming the world wide web looking for their
meal ticket.
What fired me up? I was visiting another blog today and saw that the blog owner
was charging $100 a month to advertise. $100 a month. That's what I said.
Caroline Middlebrook has the exact same traffic numbers I have.
Except she has more rss subscribers. She has a more devoted following. She has
a better record with returning readers and a more active group of commenters.
I am Becoming a Wolf
Starting today, I am becoming a wolf. I am going to be more active as a blogger
and as a community member. I still have my goal to get 1,000,000 page views
this year. I am very sure that is going to happen. I don't know how it is all
going to happen, but I am committed to achieving my goal. But, more important I
am going to do even more to monetize my website.
I have a lot of ideas that I think can prove successful in bringing in revenue.
I am going to do a better job of selling my advertising spots. I am going to
redesign my right nav bar in hopes to create more spots above the fold that I
can sell at a higher price. I am not just going to concentrate on my blogging
section. I am going to write more articles on landscaping, travel and health
sections. I also plan on adding a review section, where I will review blogs and
websites. I have an eBook that will be available at the end of February.
Earning $90,000 a Year
Last week I was reading a review by
Tyler Cruz. He was saying that he is earning close to $90,000 a
year. Wow. A web site owner that is doing the monetization process so well that
he is bringing down that kind of cash. Tyler is a wolf.
In most things that I have tried I have succeeded. The goals that I really felt
strongly about I was able to make happen. Today, I become a wolf. I am throwing
off my sheep's clothing and donning the suit of the wolf. It is not enough to
just wear the suit. I have to find the will to hunt. I will stop following the
crowd. I am going to find areas where I can lead.
Are You a Wolf or Sheep?
How about you? Are you a wolf or sheep? Are you a follower or leader? Are you
going to change your ways? I think we all can change when we are committed to a
goal.
